Governance
Democratic, volunteer-led governance, as defined by our statutes.
Our credibility rests on our independence and on being open about how we work.
We are open about our status, our resources and the rules we work by.
Under Article 16 of the statutes, the association’s resources comprise:
ACJR refuses any funding whose conditions would be incompatible with its independence, its impartiality, its statutory objectives or the integrity of its monitoring, documentation and human-rights work.
Regular accounts are kept. The financial report is submitted to the General Assembly for approval every year.
Where the law, applicable thresholds, contractual commitments or a General Assembly decision require it, the accounts are audited or certified by a qualified professional.
Only an Extraordinary General Assembly convened for that purpose can decide to dissolve the association, under the quorum and majority rules of Article 12.
Net assets may not be distributed among members: they pass to a non-profit body pursuing compatible goals (Article 21).
Under Article 20 of the statutes, the association adopts, as its activities and obligations require, internal policies covering in particular:
Standards of behaviour expected of members, volunteers and representatives.
Preventing abuse and exploitation.
Preventing conflicts of interest and corruption.
Confidentiality and security of information about victims, witnesses and sources.
Equal opportunity and the prevention of discrimination.
