About MFPHMI Part III

The Part III of MFPHMI is the Public Health Oral of Professional Competence (OEPC). The OEPC consists of an oral examination on topics relevant to the practice of public health medicine. It is conducted as a separate examination following successful completion of the written Part IIA and Part IIB examination.  
 
The questions will be drawn from the following areas:
  • Health Protection (to include Environmental Health and Emergency Planning) 
  • Health Services Improvement and Health Intelligence 
  • Health Improvement 
  • Plain Language and Communication Skills
  • Leadership, Management and Advocacy
 
The first sitting of the OEPC has been postponed from Autumn 2020 to late Spring 2022 due to pandemic. For more information please see the MFPHMI Regulations below.

Entry requirements

  • You must have passed the MFPHMI Part IIA and Part IIB examination, ie. two public health reports.

A candidate must pass the MFPHMI Part III examination within seven years of passing the Part I examination, or of passing the examination for which exemption from the Part I was granted.

Application fee

The fee to sit the MFPHMI Part III exam is €360.  The method of payment is credit or debit card, taken at the end of the online application process. Don't forget, if you're in Ireland you can claim a refund under the HSE Clinical Course and Examination Refund Scheme.

The applications are currently closed. The next MFPHMI Part III will take place in December 2022 in Dublin. The opening date for applications is 3 November and the closing date for the application is 24 November. Further information will be published in September 2022.

Candidates who passed MFPHMI Part II examination, ie. they have passed two public health reports, are eligible to apply for Part III.
