An internationally recognised qualification in General Medicine

Membership of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) is an internationally recognised benchmark of excellence, valued by healthcare employers worldwide.

MRCPI is achieved through examination. MRCPI in General Medicine is accredited by the Medical Council of Ireland as the foremost knowledge-based assessment for internal medicine in Ireland and an essential component of specialist training in Ireland.

If you've chosen General Medicine as a career path you need expert knowledge of a wide range of common acute disorders. The MRCPI in General Medicine qualification is recognised by the General Medical Council in the UK. This means that international medical graduates can apply for full registration with a licence to practice in the UK if they hold MRCPI in General Medicine.

About MRCPI General Medicine

Quality assured against international standards

It takes immense dedication and clinical acumen to reach the standard required to achieve MRCPI. There's a lot at stake and you need to have faith in the delivery and grading of your exams.

We go to great lengths to ensure our exams are fairly and consistently marked. Each question is carefully reviewed and assessed for difficulty.

Our examiners are experienced clinicians who have met strict eligibility criteria. Before an examiner can assess candidates at the Part II Clinical exam, they are required to complete training on how to calibrate clinical exam patients to set marking criteria. They are trained to mark candidates fairly and objectively.

We are committed to continuously reviewing the format and delivery of our exams to ensure they are aligned with international best practice. For instance, changes to the format of the Part II Clinical examination in General Medicine came into effect in 2013 on foot of a review and recommendations by the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), Philadelphia, USA.
